Store Update
Field Notes have a released a thrilling new collaboration - Underland. And, no, we won’t be stocking it. Collaborations are not released to retailers - so I’m afraid that you will need to take on the joys of transatlantic shipping and buy direct from the lovely Field Notes folk in Chicago.
Talking of shipping, we are getting enquiries from EU-based customers as to whether their purchases are going to be cheaper, now that the UK has left the EU. Sorry to disappoint, but no again. Nero’s is not VAT registered, so you have never paid UK vat on your purchases. Whether you are now to be hit by your own VAT and customs fees, and handling charges is a question for the EU - and frankly, who knows what they will come up with. Thus far, European customers have reported no change since Brexit.
New in the store, we have Stalogy - beautiful B-sized notebooks from Japan that love a fountain pen. We expect these to become a stock item, as there is now a UK distributor.
Limited Editions. The big two are due to release any minute. Blackwing issued a teaser, then went quiet. Field Notes are about to release their 50th LE, so we might expect something big. I have no inside info - honest. As soon as we are allowed to order, we will and we will get them shipped over as fast as the carriers and customs allow.
The notebook of the year so far has to be Sakura from Nomad Notebooks. These are achingly beautiful, and come with a matching set of pencils from Musgrave. I’m smitten by the pictures - (they haven’t made it to the mountain hideaway yet), and Clare tells me they are as stunning in real life. Beware though. These are strictly limited and we have a small stock. Once they’re gone, they’re gone.
Similarly, we are running low on all the editions from Dapper Notes. These single notebook editions are truly stunning, and once they’re gone, there will be no more.
Regular readers will know that Stuart co-hosts a podcast with Graphite master TJ Cosgrove called 1857. Available on all good podcatchers. Well, never one to tire of the sound of his own voice, there’s another one. Stationery Adjacent is a podcast about productivity, by two guys working in the real world. Co-hosted by Justin Twyford, of that there Canada. The recording is a miracle of time-zone management. Check out Justin’s recent primer on Blackwing.
